Heating and air is the one system in the house you only notice when it stops. Precision Services has kept Birmingham-area homes and businesses comfortable for 35+ years — repair, replacement, installation, and maintenance on every kind of system we run into here. One licensed, insured, in-house crew out of McCalla. We service all major brands, we quote before we work, and the phone gets answered at 2 a.m.
We handle the whole system, start to finish: HVAC repair when something quits, HVAC installation when a unit is past saving, and the seasonal maintenance that keeps you from needing either. Residential and commercial, and we work on whatever is already in the building — heat pumps, gas furnaces, straight-cool air conditioners, dual-fuel systems, package units, and ductless mini-splits.
Because we’re a multi-trade shop, one call covers it. If the problem on your HVAC service call turns out to be electrical — a dead breaker, a bad disconnect, failed wiring at the condenser — we don’t hand you a second phone number. That’s the same crew.
Our service call fee is $79. That covers getting a licensed technician out to you and a real diagnosis — not a guess and not a sales pitch. You get the problem explained in plain English and an upfront price before any work starts, with no hidden costs. If a repair isn’t the right answer, we’ll say so and show you the replacement numbers instead. Financing is available through Wells Fargo.
Most homes around Birmingham run on a heat pump, and for good reason — our winters are mild enough that one handles them efficiently without the running cost of a furnace. It also means the heat pump is doing something nearly every day of the year, and when it fails it usually fails in the middle of a cold snap.
We repair every common heat pump failure: refrigerant leaks, failed reversing valves, bad capacitors and contactors, iced-up outdoor coils, defrost-cycle faults, blower and fan motor failures, and thermostats that never hand off to auxiliary heat. We diagnose first and tell you straight whether a repair makes sense or you’re better off replacing.
Before you call, check two things: whether the outdoor unit is actually running, and whether the thermostat is stuck on emergency heat. Running on auxiliary heat alone will double an Alabama power bill in a week. If the outdoor unit is iced over, don’t chip at it — that’s how coils get punctured. Shut it down and call us.
We size the system to the house — not to whatever came out of it. An oversized unit short-cycles, never pulls the humidity out of an Alabama summer, and wears itself out early. We walk you through efficiency ratings, single-stage versus two-stage, and what the operating cost actually looks like on a real power bill here. Financing available through Wells Fargo.
Whether you heat with a heat pump, a gas furnace, or a dual-fuel system, we repair and replace all of it. The calls we run most: no heat at all, short cycling, a blower that runs but never warms the house, pilot and ignition faults, cracked heat exchangers, and thermostat failures.
Anything involving a cracked heat exchanger or a suspected gas leak is a safety issue, not a comfort issue. Shut the system down, get everyone out if you smell gas, and call us immediately. We’re licensed for gas work and we don’t cut corners on it.
When a system is past saving, we give you the honest comparison for your house — heat pump, gas furnace, or dual-fuel — including what each actually costs to run in this climate, not a national average. Most Birmingham-area homes do well on a heat pump; some don’t. We’ll tell you which one you have.
An Alabama summer is no place to be without air conditioning. We handle AC repair, replacement, and new installation for homes and businesses across the Birmingham metro — refrigerant leaks, compressor and capacitor failures, frozen evaporator coils, clogged condensate drain lines, and systems that run all day without ever cooling the house.
If your unit is more than 12–15 years old and needs a major repair, we’ll show you the numbers both ways rather than pushing a replacement you don’t need yet. Sometimes the right answer is a straightforward repair on a system with five good years left in it.
Mini-splits are the right answer for the rooms central air was never run to — additions, garages, workshops, sunrooms, and bonus rooms over the garage — and for older homes with no ductwork at all. We install, repair, and service ductless mini-split systems for both heating and cooling.
Common mini-split problems we fix: indoor head units that won’t respond to the remote, water dripping from the indoor unit, refrigerant line and line-set issues, and outdoor units that won’t start. We also service mini-splits somebody else installed — you don’t have to track down the original company.
A bad thermostat imitates a broken system, and a smart thermostat wired wrong to a heat pump will quietly run your auxiliary heat all winter while you wonder why the power bill doubled. We install and correctly configure programmable and smart thermostats, including the heat-pump-specific wiring most DIY installs get wrong.
Most of the emergency calls we run were preventable. A seasonal tune-up covers coil cleaning, a refrigerant check, electrical connections and contactors, the condensate drain, filters, and a full safety inspection — keeping the system efficient, holding most manufacturer warranties valid, and catching the small failures before they become the 2 a.m. call.
Best timing in Alabama: a cooling tune-up in spring, a heating tune-up in fall. Ask us about scheduling both so you’re not thinking about it.
No heat on the coldest night of the year, or no AC in an August heat wave, is a genuine emergency — especially with young kids, elderly family, or pets in the house. Our line answers 24/7, and because our crews are in-house, one call gets you the diagnosis and the fix. Call (205) 807-6319.
Heating your water rather than your house? That’s a plumbing job — see our water heater services.
Our shop is in McCalla, which puts our trucks minutes from Bessemer, Hueytown, Bucksville and the Tannehill area, and straight up the I-459 / I-20/59 corridor into Birmingham. Closer trucks mean faster response on the days when everybody’s system fails at once — the first hard freeze, the first 95-degree afternoon — and those are exactly the days it matters.
Most heat pumps run 12–15 years here. Because our systems work nearly year-round — cooling in summer, heating in winter — they see more run hours than a furnace in a colder state. Annual maintenance is what gets you to the top of that range rather than the bottom.
Usually one of three things: the system is in its normal defrost cycle, which passes in a few minutes; the reversing valve has failed; or refrigerant is low. If it keeps blowing cold and the backup heat is carrying the house, call us — running on auxiliary heat alone gets expensive fast.
Our rule of thumb: under 10 years old, repair it. Over 15 with a major failure — compressor, heat exchanger, coil — replacement usually wins. Between those it comes down to the repair cost against the unit’s overall condition and what you’d save in running cost. We show you both numbers and let you decide.
Yes — that is exactly what they are for. Garages, additions, sunrooms, workshops and bonus rooms over the garage are the most common installs we do. A mini-split heats and cools that space independently, without extending your existing duct system.
No heat? No AC? We answer 24/7.

Had them out earlier this week, they arrived on time, did what they needed, and charged a fair price. Would have been cool if they had the breaker we needed already on the truck(since I had mentioned that I thought we would need it before hand), but waiting on a quick run to Lowe's was a very minor issue, considering everything else was top notch. Will certainly use them again, if something pops up. The tech that came out was totally professional. Would recommend them to anyone.
